Does CBD Show Up On Drug Tests?
Many of you have asked, "Does CBD show up on drug tests?"
The great news is more and more companies are no longer refusing to hire people who test positive for marijuana. But we’re still not where we need to be - yet.
Which is why this question keeps coming up.
The short answer, No. Diamond CBD all-natural industrial hemp CBD products, like our Chill Gummies, our CBD Honey Sticks, or our CBD Oil are made from pure CBD, and independently verified by outside labs to have no synthetics or THC.
But, let’s unpack the details as to why.
Drug Testing Guidelines
Let’s explore the typical drug test (which means time for some technical jargon). For legal reasons, employers who perform mandatory drug testing almost always follow what’s called the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) guidelines.
Under those guidelines your typical drug test screens for THC, the chemical in marijuana that makes it, well, marijuana. In technical terms, lab technicians run an immunoassay with antibodies to detect THC’s primary metabolite, 11-Nor-delta9-caboxy-THC (THC-COOH).
What the test is not looking for is CBD, which is an entirely different cannabinoid. In fact, the drug screen for 11-Nor-delta… for THC has little to no cross-reactivity with the myriad of other cannabinoids found in marijuana.
In other words, you can’t find what you’re not looking for.
You’re Lying; I Know Someone Who Failed
It’s true; you may know someone who took CBD and, despite the information above, failed a drug test.
Most likely, your unlucky friend had a false positive (or your friend is lying, but we can’t help you with that!).
If you take an unusually high dose of CBD, say somewhere above 2000 mg per day, a false-positive may occur. It’s most likely caused by other metabolites and compounds found alongside CBD in your bloodstream.
Usually, a follow-up test in these circumstances will come up negative. Again, this scenario is not likely, but it is possible.
Of Course, Quality Matters
Not all products are the same. Did you know that low-quality, bunk CBD may cause you to fail a drug test? And not a false positive either!
Many products out there on the market today contain synthetics, or even THC, which, as you know, is bound to show up on a drug test. That’s why you always want to do your research when it comes to CBD and what you put in your body.
Don’t take our word for it though, Drug Detection Laboratories Inc., performed an independent third-party analysis on all of our products. Do you know what they found (or, more appropriately didn’t find)?
- Zero illicit drugs
- Zero synthetics
But, of course, you already knew that.
