Believe it or not, this is a question that comes up a lot here at Diamond CBD. New users, experienced users, and even users who like to mix both compounds together constantly ask us the same thing every day. Is Delta 8 CBD?
It’s not as crazy or “out there” of a question as one might think. On the surface, yes, Delta-8 THC and cannabidiol, or CBD, are two very different compounds. For those of you that use them, you’re well aware of the differences. Let’s back up; you’re most likely well aware of one of the significant differences between the two.
Delta-8 THC gives you a psychotropic buzz. CBD, or cannabidiol, does not.
But, the question remains. Is Delta-8 THC CBD? After all, both cannabinoids are derived from all-natural hemp. They share the same basic foundation. So really, once you think about it for a bit, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Delta-8 THC and CBD to be the same, in a sense. Let’s look at a few of the facts in front of us.
Delta-8 THC, like CBD before it, is all the big rage among hemp consumers these days. And both compounds can be found in many different products. Just like you can purchase CBD oils, CBD vapes, and CBD gummies, you can also buy Delta-8 oils, Delta-8 vapes, and Delta-8 gummies.
Both compounds are one of the myriad cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. As you probably know already, hemp contains hundreds of cannabinoids, some major and some minor. Along with CBD and Delta-8 THC, the list includes CBG, CBN, Delta-9, Delta-10, and so many more. The hemp plant has so much to give us, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Both products also interact directly with your endocannabinoid system or ECS. Granted, both Delta-8 and CBD bind to your CB1 and CB2 receptors differently, but they have similar functions. As Discover Magazine noted recently, “the ECS has two primary types of cannabinoid receptors, known as CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are typically found in brain cells and throughout the nervous system, while CB2 receptors are found in the body and immune system.”
But does all of that mean that Delta-8 is CBD? It’s an interesting question and one that deserves further exploration. For all of you out there that love Delta-8, whether it’s Chill Plus, 10X, Liquid Gold, Shrooms, or something else, if you’re wondering whether or not Delta-8 is CBD, well, we have the answer right here.
The Difference Between Delta-8 THC and CBD
Of course, as similar as Delta-8 THC and CBD are, we all know that both cannabinoids are very, very different at the same time. After all, you’ve felt the buzz from Chill Plus Delta-8 vapes or Chill Plus Poppin’ Gel Capsules. You know how much fun it can be to relax with a little bit of euphoria when you enjoy your favorite brand of Delta-8. But you take CBD for very different reasons.
Most of you take CBD as a daily addition to your wellness regimen. It’s a great way to supplement your body's natural processes. It’s also a THC-free way to do those things, which is why CBD has no buzz or no psychotropic high associated with it whatsoever. You know this from trying Yum Yum Gummies or CBD Oil Biotech. Even your pets know this every time you give them some MediPets CBD.
For starters, we know a lot more about CBD than we do about Delta-8 THC. Researchers and scientists have been studying it for a much longer time. Now, both compounds are entirely safe (anything that comes from hemp usually is), and we’re learning more about Delta-8 every day. But because CBD has been around longer, we know much more about it.
They differ chemically as well, which is why one gives you a buzz, and the other doesn’t. In fact, Delta-8 THC resembles good old-fashioned Delta-9 much more than it does CBD. That’s why most people use CBD for its natural benefits and Delta-8 for its… well, its buzz. But that’s not to say that people don’t use Delta-8 for any benefits because it’s got plenty. Folks have used it at nighttime and during mealtime, and for all sorts of other reasons.
Is Delta-8 THC CBD?
It’s like asking if a door is really a door if it’s ajar? How can one cannabinoid be another cannabinoid? Sure, they both come from hemp, but to call them both hemp seems like a stretch. Both Delta-8 and CBD interact with your ECS, but as anyone who has used both compounds surely knows, they interact very, very, differently.
But is it really possible? Can Delta-8 THC be CBD? Believe it or not, yes.
Here’s the deal. Your favorite Delta-8 THC products, everything from Shrooms to Delta-8 THC Bites and more, are hemp-derived products. But did you know that Delta-8 occurs naturally in very small quantities in hemp? So there’s actually another way to extract your favorite cannabinoid — from CBD!
“Most brands use a supercritical CO2 process to isolate and extract the cannabinoids from hemp,” writes Discover Magazine. But they also note “that Delta 8 is synthesized from CBD. This is possible since both Delta-8 is technically an isomer of CBD. That means the two compounds share the exact same atoms, just in a different arrangement. Through the atomic rearrangement of CBD, Delta 8 can be made in higher quantities.”
As you can see, yes, Delta-8 is, in a sense, CBD. Now, in reality, they are two very different cannabinoids. Both are all-natural and made from hemp. But they’re different.
