Baking with CBD oil
CBD is one of the naturally-occurring cannabinoids in the hemp plant and is a natural anti-inflammatory meaning it can inspire feelings of calm and relaxation.
But baking with CBD isn’t the same as cooking edibles with THC. Those kinds of edibles contain a different kind of cannabinoid that will leave you feeling stoned. Baking with CBD doesn’t do that. Instead, the CBD treats you’re about to bake after reading this will be all-natural treats that bring about natural feelings of relaxation without any intoxicating side effects.
One of the best things about baking with CBD oil is that you’re in complete control over your personal dose of CBD. CBD gummies and other CBD treats come with pre-measured doses, and you may find that your personal dose is a little bit more (or maybe even a little less) than what’s available. Adding your own CBD oil to recipes gives you the ability to control your own dose. Simply multiply the milligram dose you need by the serving size of your baking recipe and add that amount of CBD oil to the mix.
Is baking with CBD really that easy?
Yes! Baking with CBD is as easy as dropping in your favorite flavor of CBD oil. Just make sure that your CBD oil is extracted into a fat before you start baking with it. To do that, only use full-spectrum CBD oils when you’re baking. Full-spectrum simply means that your CBD oils contain more than just CBD. There are other vegetable oils and nutrients in a full-spectrum CBD oil. Check out our collection of full-spectrum CBD oils and choose your favorite to add to your next recipe.
An alternative to traditional full-spectrum CBD oils is CBD oil with olive oil or hemp seed oil. Both olives and hemp seeds are good sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, the fats we need to promote healthy brains and hearts. Add your desired dose to the batter of your next cake and bake it as you usually would. It’s seriously that easy!
Four fast tips for baking with CBD:
Baking with CBD is easy, but there are a few professional tips we want to share with you before you head into the kitchen. When you’ve got your favorite baking recipe picked out, come read these quick tips for baking with CBD oil:
Tip #1 — Start out with recipes you’re familiar with. Don’t pick a complicated tiramisu or flan recipe as your first CBD baking experience. You want to start out with your tried and true chocolate cake or snickerdoodle cookies. You know how these treats are supposed to taste, so you’ll know if you added the right amount of CBD oil when you take that first delicious bite.
Tip #2 — Keep an eye on your temperature. CBD oil can start to cook out of your cake at any temperature above 350 degrees. Even if your baking recipe calls for a 400 or 420-degree setting, keep your CBD baked goods around 340 degrees for the best results. It may take a little longer to cook, but it will be well worth the wait.
Tip #3 — Consider baking with a CBD honey tincture. One of our favorite ways to bake with CBD oil is using a full-spectrum CBD honey tincture. These oils are made with 100% all-natural honey, which adds a subtle sweetness to any recipe. Just substitute this honey tincture for the sugar next time you’re baking. We offer the honey tincture in varying strengths (from 25mg to 3500mg), so you’ve got complete control over how you bake with CBD.
Tip #4 — Try infusing CBD into butter or your favorite cooking oils. If you know your way around a kitchen, infusing CBD into your cooking oil could be the best route. To do that, you’ll need to use a CBD isolate which is much more potent than your traditional full-spectrum CBD oils. CBD isolates contain no other cannabinoids or oils — just pure, isolated CBD. Check out our Blue CBD line of CBD isolates if you’re interested in trying infusion.
Are you looking for CBD baking recipes?
Okay, we’ll admit it. Sometimes CBD gummies don’t always satisfy our sweet tooth. When we’re looking for something more sweet and savory, we add a little CBD oil to one of our favorite baking recipes:
Red Velvet CBD Cake
Slip into something more decadent with this red velvet chocolate cake recipe. Take it to the next level with butter infused with Red Velvet CBD Isolate:
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup unsalted butter OR ½ cup of your CBD isolate-infused butter
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp vanilla extract OR 2 tbsp vanilla CBD oil
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp distilled white vinegar
A few drops red food coloring
Preheat oven to 340 degrees
Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl. Then set aside.
In a mixing bowl, mix together butter and sugar for 1 minute or until smooth. Add egg yolks, vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla CBD. Mix together for another 2 minutes. Keep egg whites aside for step 5.
When smooth, slowly add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the mixing bowl. Mix at a low speed.
Mix in the desired amount of food coloring now, and then slowly add your egg whites, mixing at a high speed until fluffy little peaks show up in your batter.
Grease two 9-inch cake pans and divide your batter between the two pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Remember bake times may take longer since CBD oils require a lower temperature when you bake with the oils.
Let cake cool before adding your favorite cream cheese icing and enjoy!
