THCP Flower: Grow with Your Buzz

THCP is a new and exciting compound just recently discovered. There are many ways to enjoy the cannabinoid on the market today, including carts and disposable vapes. That said, THCP flower is among the most popular (and most fun) ways to ingest the cannabinoid. But what exactly is THCP flower? How is it made and what should you be looking for when choosing a THCP flower to indulge in?

What is THCP Flower?

THCP flower is hemp flower with added THCP. What you get is essentially the same thing you’d get from a local dealer or dispensary: a smokable flower that, when lit and inhaled, produces the psychoactive experiences of cannabis. That said, THCP isn't just any good old-fashioned cannabinoid. The compound is so potent that its psychoactive level is the thing of dreams! But what exactly is THCP? And why has it become such a big deal?

THCP, or tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is the strongest, most powerful cannabinoid discovered to date. It is an analog of THC that researchers believe to be around 33 times more potent than regular delta 9. To put that in perspective, delta 9 is about twice as strong as delta 8 and around 30% stronger than HHC.

The compound was discovered accidentally in 2019 by a group of Italian researchers. They weren’t trying to discover any new cannabinoids at all, but rather just wanted to inspect cannabis samples up close. In their findings, they revealed that THCP works a lot like THC in the endocannabinoid system, mainly interacting with CB1 receptors. Unlike THC, however, THCP has a much stronger binding affinity for CB1 receptors: it’s thought to be around 33 times more effective at binding to them, making the compound all that much more potent than THC.

Scientifically speaking, THCP has a longer alkyl side chain than THC. Molecularly, this is what makes THCP so much stronger; the length of its alkyl side chain helps it better bind with the receptors in the endocannabinoid system. So, in other words, THCP’s longer side chain equals a bigger buzz.

While it’s true that THCP gets you high—and we do mean really, really, extremely high—the compound also has a few other benefits. Although research on the compound remains in its infancy due to the fact that it was just recently discovered, the same team of researchers that initially found it also learned that THCP can benefit the human body in many ways.

According to their research, THCP may have the following benefits:

  • Stretching short, tight ligaments (hypomobility)
  • Mild to severe pain relief
  • Help with sleep, especially for those in pain
  • May lower body temperature, especially in the rectum

Is THCP Flower Legal?

THCP flower is legal at the federal level under the Farm Bill of 2018. Signed into law by Donald Trump, this bill is also known as the Agriculture Improvement Act. The Farm Bill created a legal distinction between marijuana and hemp, with marijuana being defined as any cannabis plant containing more than 0.3% THC, while hemp is defined as any cannabis plant with THC contents of 0.3% THC or less on a dry-weight basis. While the Agriculture Improvement Act federally legalized hemp and all hemp derivatives, it did not do the same for marijuana, which remains an illegal schedule I substance. So, in order to be considered federally legal, your THCP product must come from hemp and contain 0.3% or less.

Despite the government’s assessment and acceptance of hemp and hemp compounds, not every state feels the same way. Many have passed laws banning or heavily restricting hemp products, including THCP. Although the compound hasn’t been listed by name in any state bill or law, it’s likely not legal in the following states:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • New York
  • Rhode Island
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Washington

How Do You Smoke THCP Flower?

Just like regular weed, THCP flower can be smoked in a variety of ways, and it’s up to you to determine which of these is right for you. Depending on your preferred process and what you’re comfortable with, you can either smoke THCP flower in a joint or blunt, a pipe or bong, or even eat it. Let’s dig a little deeper regarding each of these ways to smoke.

Joints and blunts are a great way to enjoy your THCP flower, especially if you’re doing so in a crowd of friends. Both, joints and blunts involve grinding and rolling the flower, so for this smoking method, you’ll either need some previous rolling experience or to pull up a quick YouTube tutorial. Although joints and blunts are similar, they do share one key difference. Blunts are made using tobacco leaf wraps, meaning they contain cannabis and tobacco. Joints, on the other hand, are rolled with sheets usually made from hemp, rice, straw, or even wood pulp, meaning that you get 100% cannabis and nothing else. Another way to enjoy cannabis and tobacco is by making a spliff, which involves rolling with either type of wrapper and sprinkling some tobacco before sealing the wrapper shut.

Bongs and pipes are other popular ways of smoking flower. A bong is generally a bigger piece that uses water to cool the smoke before it reaches your lungs and traps some of the heavier particles and water-soluble molecules in the smoke. A pipe, on the other hand, is a smaller piece that usually does not involve water. If you’re on the go, a pipe is certainly the most transportable piece between the two, but if you like a cleaner and more intense hit, a bong is the way to go.

Another way of using THCP flower is by making it into edibles. Although it isn't a way to smoke the flower per se, it’s certainly a great way to enjoy it. Now, you won't get high just by munching on your nugs because they haven’t been properly decarboxylated. Decarbing involves heating up your weed in order to activate its psychoactive ingredients. The process of making cannabutter with your nugs certainly decarbs them, and you’re left with a delicious butter you can add to virtually any type of food. This is a great method to lighten the load on your throat and lungs, and also makes the cannabinoid’s effects last longer and feel stronger.

There are many ways to use THCP flower, but only you can decide which one is best for you. You can try them all or stick to just one, depending on your needs and desired effects. If you’re unable to smoke for any reason, making edibles may be the best option for you. If you want to throw it back with some old school sessions, go for joints or blunts. If you’re not great at rolling and prefer to ration out your weed based on bowl packs, bongs or pipes may be for you. In any case, the choice is completely yours!

Different Types of THCP Flower Available

Our THCP flower comes in many blends and strains. But what exactly does that mean? Our blends are carefully crafted, professionally made products that not only contain THCP, but also other fan-favorites like delta 8 and HHC. These products offer you the range of benefits of all cannabinoids, not just THCP, making them more well-rounded and enjoyable.

Strains are a little time-consuming to explain, but understanding them is equally as simple. Our THCP flower comes in many different types of strains, from Blue Dream to Skywalker OG. Just like any other type of cannabis, there are three different types of THCP flower strains: indica, sativa, and hybrid.

Indica is native to Central Asia and is commonly grown in areas of Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. This type of strain is known for its short and bushy appearance, as well as its calming and relaxing effects. Indica induces a strong “body high” that leaves you feeling chilled out, making it the perfect strain to unwind after a long day at work. Additionally, indica strains are great for helping with sleep, reducing pain, and aiding in meditative processes. Indica’s sedative effects can be remembered with the phrase “in-di-couch.”

Sativa, on the other hand, is all that indica is not. Its strong “head high” makes it great for concentration, focus, conversation, and activity. The strain type is energizing and euphoric, making it perfect for a wake-n-bake session on a busy day. Whether you need to get some work done or want to enjoy a fast-paced night out with friends, sativa is the perfect strain to keep you energized, motivated, and engaged.

Lastly, we have hybrid strains, which, as their name suggests, are a mix of sativa and indica strains. Hybrids blend the properties of both types of strain in one product. There are many types of hybrid strains, with some of the most popular being indica-dominant, sativa-dominant, and half-and-half. Depending on what type of hybrid you choose, the effects of either strain will be heightened more than the other, but in essence, hybrid strains give you the best of both worlds.

How is THCP Flower Grown?

THCP itself occurs naturally in the cannabis plant, but it is only found in trace amounts, so it is safely and professionally created from CBD in a process known as isomerization. All cannabinoids come from CBGA, or cannabigerolic acid, sometimes referred to as “the mother cannabinoid.” This means that all cannabinoids, from CBD to THC, share similar molecular structures. The process of isomerization simply involves rearranging the molecules in one compound in order to form another.

Once THCP is created, it is refined into a THCP distillate, which is a pure product containing only THCP. THCP flower is then made through a multi-step infusion process. We begin with premium, high-quality organic hemp, which is coated with delta 8 kief and distillate oil. The process of coating the nugs occurs multiple times, increasing its psychoactive properties with each coat. The end result is a high-quality THCP flower much like the top-shelf stuff you’d find in a dispensary.

What to Look for When Buying THCP Flower

There are many things to look out for when buying THCP flower. You should absolutely consider the type of strain and your desired effect, as well as the quality of the nugs based on frostiness, color, or smell. But the single most important factor to consider when buying THCP flower is the quality and reliability of your retailer or manufacturer.

As the FDA does not extensively oversee the production and distribution of hemp-derived cannabinoids, it falls on individual manufacturers and retailers to establish their safety, quality, and purity standards. Consequently, it is your duty to find a reliable THCP supplier that prioritizes your safety and the quality of their products.
