What is CBD and where does it come from?
CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. It is part of a family of molecules called “cannabinoids.” Some cannabinoids are naturally produced by the human body. These are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids are received by cells via endocannabinoid receptors - gateways on cells for which cannabinoids, including CBD, act as “keys.” Cannabinoids have a regulating effect on important cells, such as neurons found in the brain, nerves found throughout the body, and cells of all the major organs.
The two major cannabinoids found in cannabis are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). THC is the main compound responsible for the “high” produced by marijuana. Marijuana’s cousin, hemp, on the other hand, contains negligible amounts of THC. Most strains of agricultural hemp are rich in CBD.
Why do people use CBD?
People consume CBD for a variety of reasons ranging from stress relief to cancer treatment. CBD has been shown in numerous scientific studies to have beneficial effects on human cells.
For starters, endocannabinoids are an anti-inflammatory agent. Inflammation is the number one cause of pain, including chronic conditions such as arthritis, as well as circulatory-related ailments.
Cannabinoids also have a regulating effect on the brain and nervous systems. Studies have shown CBD to be a promising candidate for sleep disorders, anxiety and depression, stress relief, and more.
Furthermore, lab studies have shown that CBD can induce a process called “apoptosis” in cancerous cells, causing cancer cells to self-destruct.
How to choose a CBD product manufacturer.
The vast array of CBD products on the market can make it difficult to decide which one to purchase. But finding a high-quality CBD isn’t difficult if you know what to look for.
Purity should be the main factor when determining which product to use. There are many CBD products out there which come from countries that do not enforce strict organic farming practices. Many of these companies use chemical fertilizers and dangerous pesticides. Their products can contain toxic residues and should be avoided at all costs.
Strength is another factor to consider. What is the concentration of CBD in the products you are considering? Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as reading the label. Studies on CBD products currently on the market have shown that many of these products don’t contain the level of CBD being claimed on the products.
So how does one know which products contain impurities or are making false claims? It can take a lot of research to find answers.
Diamond CBD uses 100% natural organic hemp to produce our products. We use an extraction system which purifies CBD leaving zero chemical residues. All our products are tested by independent laboratories to confirm that they are safe and that they contain the amount of CBD we claim they contain.
Deciding which product to use.
CBD can be consumed in a variety of ways. The most popular CBD products are edibles, tinctures, topicals, and vape oils.
Edible products include CBD oils, gummies, etc. Edibles are quick, convenient and often enjoyable. CBD in edibles makes its way to tissues throughout your body via the digestive system. Edibles are popular for people with digestive inflammation such as ulcers, Chrons Disease, IBS, IBD, etc.
(CBD oil can also be applied directly to the skin to localize the application of CBD to a particular part of the skin or muscles. All Diamond CBD oils can be used topically.)
Vape liquids require a “vape pen” which evaporates or atomizes the CBD allowing it to be inhaled. The CBD enters the bloodstream via the lungs the same way oxygen does. Vaping is great for relaxing while maintaining alertness, whether at home or while socializing. Diamond CBD offers a variety of CBD vape liquids.
